Neldon “AZD” Mamuad founded MAUIWatch in July of 2013. Originally named after a prolific traffic officer, he took a simple Facebook page from zero to thousands of fans in 72 hours. MAUIWatch’s popularity quickly dwarfed that of other news sites and government agencies specific to Maui County.

AZD has a 10 year pedigree running successful broadcast properties on Maui. Neldon is a local politco, event technologist, and involved with various community organizations. He was most recently the Chairman of the Maui County Liquor Control Commission.

A native of Molokai, Hawaii, he is so much more than a radio personality: He’s a show host, voiceover talent, entrepreneur and executive producer.

AZD has built a devoted audience of fans throughout an enormously successful 10-year radio career. The Big Phat Morning Show was his top-rated daily radio show that has gained respect from fellow industry professionals and has been recognized by various community leaders and organizations.

Throughout his career, AZD has developed a formula for bringing together a top team of professionals to join him in the studio to produce a daily show that consistently remains fresh, entertaining and relatable to the listener. Surrounded by a great team and his Co-host G-Money, AZD has successfully created countless show topics and features that are interactive and engage the listening audience. Listeners become glued to the station, whether driving in their car, or sitting at their desk listening to the live online stream.

AZD entered the radio industry at the age of 20 with his first gig at Radio Maui’s radio station, KMVI-AM 550. His first job was behind the controls for the local Tongan community talk show playing cassette tapes and carts. In 1997, it was apparent that AZD was destined to be in radio. KNUQ-FM appointed him program director at the age of 22.

From KMVI, AZD’s first big break came with a position in Kahului, Maui at KNUQ-FM where he auditioned for the mid-day shift and later filled in temporarily for the morning show which later became his permanent slot . He debuted on the microphone for the first time at the latter half of 1998. AZD became a market phenomenon beating the heritage island station to become Eastlan ranked #1…12+ and 18-34.

Leading what some would call a quiet revolution, AZD has transformed his passion for radio into a preeminent enterprise that fast-forwarded the face and sound of Maui contemporary hit radio. In 2002, he retired KMVI-FM and created KJMD-FM “Da Jam 98.3” where the Big Phat Morning Show was later born. The show proved to be successful, earning new listeners for AZD across the island.

As one of the signature voices of Maui radio, AZD is a champion of sharing his knowledge and proponent for diversification in the careers of radio talent. He mentored both male and female radio personalities and those working to enter the industry. AZD feels that is how Maui radio was built and was committed to the responsibility through teaching to preserve history and shape the future of radio for tomorrow.

AZD also ran his own production company having done numerous events in the islands with attendance ranging from the hundreds to the thousands.

AZD’s career has taken many rewarding twists and turns. His talent, vision, hard work and ability to entertain audiences has garnered him many accolades for his accomplishments in radio. At 43-years old, he has no intentions of slowing down. According to him, the best is yet to come.
